On the last weekend of April, the premiere destination for local foodies was definitely the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, where about two dozen restaurants-on-wheels set up shop for the first-ever Texas Food Truckin' Fest. The event drew big crowds of adults and kids eager to get their nosh on and indulge in a little springtime outdoor fun.

The eating extravaganza offered guests the chance to stroll the ballpark grounds and sample delectable dishes representing chow from around the globe: gourmet pizza, Gyros, Indian wraps, shrimp burritos, Vietnamese tacos, barbecue sandwiches and carne asada-along with cupcakes, fancy smoothies and make-your-own snow cones.

While resting in between snack sessions or pondering the next food truck selection, guests could also enjoy entertainment from street performers, live music and face painting-and on Saturday, a jumbo-screen broadcast of the Rangers-Twins away game and other sporting events.

The event was produced by Experience Arlington in partnership with Rangers Enterprises and U.S. Food Trucks. A portion of the proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

"What a great event!" said Decima Cooper, director of public relations and events for Experience Arlington.

"We heard from trucks that it was the best fest they had ever been a part of," she said. "We are very happy with the results, and already looking forward to planning the second annual Texas Food Truckin' fest!"
