If you've driven on Cooper Street between I-20 and Mitchell Street near UT Arlington recently, then you've probably encountered some construction areas that slowed your commute.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is managing this multimillion dollar project along Cooper Street, one of the city's major thoroughfares.

Raised-curb medians should be completed before the spring, weather permitting. All work, including the repaving, should be finished summer 2016.

Here's a look at some of the improvements planned for Cooper Street:

• New asphalt overlay
• Installing raised-curbed medians from Arkansas to Mitchell street
• Upgrading traffic signals
• Building and connecting sidewalks
• Installing curb ramps and driveway reconstruction
• Milling and repairing the existing roadway surface with an asphalt pavement overlay over the entire project length

Currently, raised curb medians are being installed, concrete pavement is being repaired and driveways are being reconstructed. The raised curb medians will improve safety and mobility along Cooper Street. Crews will continue to repair potholes in the construction zone as they appear.

According to TxDOT, there will be no closures or work near the Parks at Arlington during the holiday shopping season to ease congestion for holiday shoppers.
