Construction began this week on an Arlington Water Utilities project that will improve sanitary sewer service in central Arlington, near the intersection of Matlock Road and West Mayfield Road.

The Arlington City Council approved a $1,262,903 construction contract with Gra-Tex Utilities, Inc., of Kennedale, for the Matlock (Mayfield to Central Park) Sanitary Sewer Improvements project. Plans for the work include the replacement of approximately 1,510 linear feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer main in Matlock Road from West Mayfield Road to Central Park Drive. Some partial lane closures are expected in the area as the replacement project progresses during the late summer and fall of 2023.

Once the sanitary sewer infrastructure improvements are completed, the concrete pavement panels affected during construction will be replaced.

The sanitary sewer mains being replaced are in poor condition, which could potentially result in sanitary sewer overflows. The improvements will extend the life of public sewer mains, reduce maintenance costs, and improve service.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2023.
