The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to the death of 24-year-old Benjamin Mancera, who was shot and killed in the 1800 block of E. Mitchell Street on September 22, 2023.

Following a thorough investigation, homicide detectives identified the suspect as 18-year-old Oscar Gavia and obtained a warrant for his arrest on one count of Murder.

Members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Mr. Gavia on September 26, 2023 in Arlington and took him into custody without incident.

Detectives are continuing their investigation surrounding other individuals who were present at the time of the victim’s murder.

Mr. Gavia was booked into the Arlington City Jail and has a since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.

 On Friday, September 22, 2023, at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to the 1800 block of  E. Mitchell Street to investigate a reported shooting.

 When officers arrived on scene, they located a 24-year-old man lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. On Saturday, September 23, 2023 medical staff notified the department the victim had died from his injuries.

 Based on their investigation, detectives believe the victim got into a physical fight with a group of individuals – and during the fight, someone pulled out a gun and shot him. The suspects then left the scene.

 This does not appear to be a random incident. Investigators believe the victim and at least one of the suspects knew each other.

 No arrests have been made at this time. Detectives are currently following up on leads. They’re asking residents of the area to check their home surveillance cameras for any possible video evidence.

 The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
