Citizens Bond Committee Public Meeting

Arlington residents have a variety of ways to provide feedback on nearly $200 million in proposed bond-funded public infrastructure projects that could be presented to voters in May 2025. Projects include library and park improvements, public safety equipment, and street and sidewalk construction.

After five weeks of research, the 19-member Citizens Bond Committee has finalized its list of recommended projects. The 26 recommendations include approximately $48.9 million for public safety, $2.4 million for libraries, $3.1 million for public facility improvements, $6.5 million for parks and recreation and $136.9 million for public works.

Before the Citizens Bond Committee presents its recommendations to the City Council in December, residents are invited to provide feedback through an in-person public meeting as well as online options.

Ways to Participate

  • The Citizens Bond Committee will host a public meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Beacon Recreation Center, 1100 Mansfield Webb Road. Spanish speakers will be available at the come-and-go meeting, which begins with a presentation at 6 p.m.
  •  The City’s new Arlington Listens online public engagement site also provides residents the chance to explore an interactive map that highlights the Citizen Bond Committee’s highest priority projects and a list of its other recommendations. •  Residents can also participate in an online survey to provide feedback between Nov. 1 and Nov. 10, 2024. Click here to take the survey. Visitors to the Arlington Listens site do not have to register to view information or posted messages but do have to sign up to take the survey or leave public comments on the platform.

The Council-appointed Citizens Bond Committee held weekly meetings, all open to the public, between Sept. 12 and Oct. 10 to review and prioritize information from departments requesting capital project funding. Committee members toured City Hall, the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center, the East, West and South police stations, Fire Station No. 6, library branches, recreation centers and all six major roadway project sites, Committee Chair Mary Ashworth Phillips said. The Committee’s total recommendation for the proposed three-year capital bond program is $198 million, within the City Council’s adopted financial principles. The City Council is expected to begin reviewing and refining the list of proposed projects between December and February for a potential election in May 2025.
