Posted on December 18, 2024, December 18, 2024

The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a hit-and-run incident that occurred December 15, 2024 at the intersection of E. Lamar Boulevard & Corporate Drive and resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians.

Crash investigators identified 33-year-old Nathan Vaughan as the driver of the suspect vehicle. On December 17, 2024, officers located him in Grand Prairie and initially arrested him on unrelated, outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Once Mr. Vaughan was in custody, investigators filed two counts of Collision Involving Death against him.

Following widespread media coverage of the incident, investigators received an actionable lead from a member of the public on December 16. The tipster said the night of the hit-and-run, they’d seen a silver Chevrolet Malibu with heavy front-end damage, matching the description of the suspect vehicle they’d heard about on the news, parked at a bar in the 300 block of Great Southwest Parkway. The tipster also provided images of the car, which included a tag number.

Using that information, APD’s Real-Time Crime Center determined Mr. Vaughan was the registered owner of the Malibu. They were also able to use traffic and Flock cameras to track the Malibu’s movements the night of the hit-and-run, which were consistent with the timeframe of the collision.

Officers located the Malibu at Mr. Vaughan’s home in Grand Prairie. When investigators spoke to him, he admitted to driving the Malibu and indicated he thought he’d hit a light pole. Investigators determined Mr. Vaughan had just left a bar along E. Lamar Blvd and was traveling to the bar along Great Southwest Parkway when the collision occurred.

Mr. Vaughan is currently being held at the Arlington City Jail.

The victims have tentatively been identified as a 22-year-old male and a 23-year-old female. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release their names. Investigators believe they were living out of the one of the motels in the area.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

The Arlington Police Department is investigating an auto-pedestrian hit-and-run that resulted in the deaths of two people.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 11:32 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of E. Lamar Boulevard and Corporate Drive after receiving reports that multiple people were injured in a crash.

When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female and an adult male lying unresponsive on the ground. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither of them had any identification on them and at this time, their identities are unknown.

The driver who hit them did not stay at the scene.

Traffic cameras in the area captured the collision. The footage shows a silver Chevrolet Malibu with temporary paper tags traveling eastbound along Lamar Blvd at a high rate of speed. As the Malibu passed through the intersection, it went onto the sidewalk where the two pedestrians were walking, striking both of them. The driver then pulled back onto the roadway and sped off, heading eastbound towards Highway 360.

Investigators are working to locate the vehicle and identify the driver. At this time, no arrests have been made.

We believe the Malibu will have heavy front end damage to the hood and windshield. Anyone with information about the incident or the location of the suspect vehicle is urged to contact Crash Investigator Lee at (817) 575-8605 or [email protected].

Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at (817) 469-8477. Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. To be eligible for the reward, tipsters must contact the Crime Stoppers tip line.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names of the victims once they have been positively identified and next of kin have been notified.
