The Arlington Police Department was notified that the victim of a recent shooting incident has died from his injuries. The case is now being investigated as a homicide and four suspects are in custody, charged with Capital Murder.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., APD officers responded to a parking lot in the 4900 block of Little Road to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, they found a man slumped over inside a parked vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased on December 18, 2024. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has publicly identified him as 34-year-old Juan Sosa.

A 45-year-old woman was also in the vehicle with Mr. Sosa at the time. She was not injured. She told officers while she and Mr. Sosa were sitting in the vehicle, another car pulled up behind them. Multiple males then exited the car, approached them, and demanded they get out of their vehicle. At least one of the suspects was armed and displayed a gun. Moments later, multiple shots were fired into the car, striking Mr. Sosa.

Immediately following the shooting, the suspects returned to their car and drove away from the scene.

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, officers were able to get a good description of the suspect vehicle, a Honda Civic. Just after 5:00 a.m., APD Patrol officers spotted the Civic, as well as a Lincoln Town Car that appeared to be following it, in the 1600 block of Parkway Lane. Officers attempted to pull over the Civic, but the driver did not stop and sped away. The Lincoln did stop. Officers detained two individuals inside, 20-year-old Humberto Barajas and a teenage male. After further investigation, they determined both young men were connected to the shooting and arrested them.

A short time later, officers found the Civic wrecked out in the 2100 block of Browning Drive. They later located an individual at a nearby apartment complex believed to be a passenger in the car, 17-year-old Angel Barajas, and took him into custody.

A fourth suspect, the driver of the Civic, evaded capture. Following additional investigation, detectives identified him as 17-year-old Ja’Tavies Jones.

All four individuals are suspected in multiple crimes that occurred before and after the deadly shooting.

  • Investigators learned the Honda Civic was reported stolen out of Dallas on Saturday, December 14 at approximately 9:45 p.m.
  • Detectives believe earlier Sunday morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., all four suspects were also involved in a separate shooting that occurred at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Deer Creek Drive. A 32-year-old woman and a dog were both injured during the incident. The suspects were seen leaving the complex in the same Civic involved in the deadly shooting.
  • Detectives learned the Lincoln Town Car that Mr. Barajas and the teenage male were found in had been reported stolen during an armed carjacking that occurred in Grand Prairie at approximately 4:20 a.m. Sunday.

Angel Barajas was initially booked into the Arlington City Jail on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Aggravated Robbery, one count of Animal Cruelty, and one count of Evading.

Humberto Barajas was initially booked into the Arlington City Jail on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Aggravated Robbery, and one count of Animal Cruelty. He also had an outstanding felony warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon out of Dallas County.

Both have since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail where they are currently being held.

Because the teenage male is a juvenile, we are unable to release his name. He was transported to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center and initially charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Aggravated Robbery, and one count of Animal Cruelty.

Following Mr. Sosa’s death, detectives obtained arrest warrants for all four suspects on one count of Capital Murder and an additional count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, which were served on the suspects in custody.

On December 19, 2024, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Mr. Jones in Arlington and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Arlington City Jail on the warrants. Additional charges against him are pending.
