Hoops and History: Honoring 130 Years of Excellence

Celebrate UTA's 130th anniversary at the men's basketball game Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, starting at 7 p.m. at College Park Center. Show your Maverick pride and cheer on your basketball team in its battle against Southern Utah University. Click here for ticket information. 

East West Shrine Bowl 

The East-West Shrine Bowl takes place 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, at AT&T Stadium. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the best college football players in the world to showcase their talents as top NFL Draft prospects in front of all 32 NFL teams’ scouts and executives. Many of professional football’s most recognized and decorated players, including legends Tom Brady, Walter Payton, John Elway and current stars Brock Purdy, Zay Flowers and Isiah Pacheco, played in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Shows at Arlington Music Hall

The Arlington Music Hall has a shows you can enjoy starting 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, it’s Collin Raye, then 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, it’s Who’s Best, and rounding out the weekend, 8 p.m. Saturday Feb. 1, 2025, it’s Lone Star Skynyrd. Click on the event for ticket information.  

Bug Squad: Created by Omaha Children’s Museum

Immerse yourself into an imaginative world where insects don’t just have super abilities… they are superheroes! Meet the Bug Squad this fall at River Legacy Nature Center, this visiting exhibit features talking animatronic members of the Bug Squad. Guests will learn about each of their superhero stories, super abilities, and the unique traits they use each day. It runs through Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz AND Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition at the Arlington Museum of Art

Following the release of the highly anticipated film, the Arlington Museum of Art will debut a collection of costumes from Wicked (2024) celebrating the artistry of the costume design and twenty-one years of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked. The Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition will feature a collection of larger-than-life images taken by Diana’s trusted friend and Official Royal Photographer, the late Anwar Hussein, as well as his sons Samir and Zak. Each image will be accompanied by first-hand accounts of the stories behind the world-famous moments, told through an in-depth audio guide.

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Children’s Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library for a playfully discover the world around us! Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. East Social Club - Kaiju Film Night

Prepare for an electrifying Kaiju Film Night featuring the classic showdown, Mothra vs. Godzilla (1992)! Head to the East Library and Recreation Center 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, for a thrilling evening as two of Japan's most iconic monsters clash in an epic battle on the big screen. Savor themed mocktails and delicious concessions and test your kaiju knowledge with trivia for a chance to win monster-sized prizes in our raffle. Pottery Share & Learn Social – BYOB

Pottery Share & Learn Social is a free community event to support local artists. These monthly social events are for networking, discussing products and techniques, sharing information and developing resources. BYOB. This event takes place 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at Catalyst Creative Arts. January’s theme: bring your favorite collected pottery and we'll work as a group to discover and discuss process techniques of each piece. PLUS! Local potter, Jarid Parker, will be asking for volunteers to take home and R&D test several of his new prototype forms.

Nature School Open House

Discover the magic of early childhood education at River Legacy Nature Center’s Open House on 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. Tour our amazing classrooms, meet live animal ambassadors, and explore our nature-based curriculum for ages 3-5. Learn how our hands-on lessons, small class sizes, and daily outdoor adventures foster curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. 

Authors in Arlington: Nick Solis 

The Arlington Public Library is proud to present Authors in Arlington, a new program focused on connecting the community with popular and influential authors. They are happy to host Nick Solis. He is an award-winning author with books such as The Staring Contest, The Color Collector, My Town, Mi Pueblo, and The Littlest Grito. He has been the recipient of the Water Dean Myers grant from We Need Diverse Books and was nominated for the 2020 Austin SCBWI Cynthia Leitich Smith Writing Menor Award. He is also an award-winning elementary teacher and has taught all over the world. Please join for this special event to learn more about his life and becoming an author, his writing, and his books. Afterwards we will have a moderated Q&A session as well a book signing for those who would like to have their books signed. This event is perfect for children 5 and up. This event will take place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, in the Workman Junior High Auditorium, located at 701 E Arbrook Blvd, Arlington, TX 76014. KUTUB: Arabic Book Club 

The Arabic Book Club “Kutub” meets on the first Saturday of the month from 1-3 p.m., at the at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Dream Study Room. Members will discuss novels, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, music, feature films or documentaries that explore Arabic culture. Read and discuss what you’ve read. Exploring new cultures, values, and practices is what makes us better human beings as any culture has things to teach us, regardless of differences. Open for adults and seniors. No registration required.

“Amazing Unknown Bugs” with Urban Wildlife Biologist, Sam Kieschnick

🕷️🐞 Did you know there’s a hidden world of insects buzzing around us every day? Join River Legacy Nature Center 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, for “Amazing Unknown Bugs” with urban wildlife biologist Sam Kieschnick of Texas Parks and Wildlife. 🐜 Sam will take you on an incredible journey into the lives of insects you may never have noticed but play a vital role in our urban ecosystems. 🌱 Perfect for curious minds aged 8+, this event is a must for families, nature enthusiasts, and aspiring naturalists. Build Your Own Bee Hotel

Make your own bee hotel during the class to bring home and feature in your North Texas yard! The event takes place 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at the Southeast Branch Library’s Community Room. Wildlife – including bees - need places to hide, escape and rest, but habitat loss has reduced their natural options. Help them out by creating a hotel for your own backyard. Learn from Tarrant County Master Gardeners how you can support roaming bees and other native pollinators by providing them with their favorite foods. Dungeon Master Workshop 

Unleash your creativity and dive into the enchanting world of tabletop role-playing games at Arlington Public Library‘s Dungeon Master Workshop series. It takes place 2-3 p.m. at the Northeast Branch Library’s Community Room. This program is designed for aspiring DMs of all skill levels who want to learn the art of running their own games. Join for a series of four hands-on sessions where you'll discover the essential tools and techniques to guide your players through unforgettable quests. In this workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of storytelling, character development, and world-building. They will cover everything from designing intriguing plots and crafting compelling NPCs to mastering the rules of the game. You will also learn tips for balancing encounters, fostering player engagement, and adapting your adventures on the fly. This workshop will work with Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, and we will explore some of the changes coming with 5.5e.  This is the fourth installment in the series, and it will focus on A Dungeon Master's Tips for Running Games, Improvisation, and Homebrew.

Valentine's Day Coaster 9+ 

Celebrate Valentine's Day by creating your own coasters 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. Come and learn how to design personalized coasters perfect for gifts or decorating your own space. This class is limited to the first 12 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+.

Sunday Brunch

Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon French toast and served with maple syrup!
