IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TMRS HELPS NOTIFICATION
Police and Firefighters who pay the City of Arlington for insurance premiums via TMRS
On January 25, 2023, TMRS sent you and the City of Arlington a notification of new legislation that recently passed, changing how your insurance is currently being paid.
Beginning in April, TMRS will no longer deduct health insurance premiums from your retirement benefit to pay your premium. As a result, your monthly retirement benefit amount will increase accordingly.
Please note: if you are paying insurance premiums to any other entities via TMRS (such as UHC, etc..) not the City of Arlington, you will need to contact them directly for assistance to establish alternative payment methods.
Therefore, beginning in April, TMRS will no longer submit HELPS insurance premiums to cities who provide insurance coverage to their retired employees.
The City of Arlington will be sending a communication to you in February, with instructions on transitioning to ACH (bank draft) for your insurance premiums. Your first draft for your insurance will be effective May 1, 2023.
