All child care establishments in the State of Texas are regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) Child Care Licensing (CCL) Division. Arlington's Health Services Division routinely conducts food service, environmental health and safety and playground inspections of commercial child care centers, mother's day out and after-school programs. Home based child care providers are required to get a home based business license with the City of Arlington's Planning and Development Services Department. Application can be made by visiting ArlingtonPermits.com and applying for a Home Based Business Registration.

Persons who work in commercial child care centers must have a City of Arlington Child Care Worker Permit, Background and Central Registry check, Mantoux Tuberculosis Test, First Aid and CPR Training.

NEW! CITY OF ARLINGTON NOW OFFERING IN-PERSON CHILD CARE WORKER CLASSES

This two-hour course meets the requirements of Minimum Standard 746.1309 and Section 744.1309 for instructor-led training and City of Arlington Childcare Ordinance Section 5.10 for the City of Arlington Childcare Worker Permit.

The introductory rate for both training and registration is $20.

Classes have been scheduled for the following dates and times at the George W Hawkes Downtown Library, located at 100 S Center St, Arlington, Texas 76010.  Additional classes will be added in the upcoming calendar year.

  • November 14, 2024 from 6PM to 8PM
  • December 5, 2024 from 6PM to 8PM
  • December 12, 2024 from 6PM to 8PM

Course topics include hazard mitigation, building and physical premises safety, safe food handling practices, and communicable disease prevention and reporting. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive a City of Arlington Childcare Worker Permit, valid for three years, and a certificate of completion for two clock hours of instructor-led training.

All individuals working in childcare centers in Arlington are required to obtain a Childcare Worker Permit within 30 days of hire by city ordinance. Childcare Worker Permits must be renewed every three years. Child Care Worker Permit courses may also be obtained online or through an approved Child Care Worker Trainer registered with the City of Arlington.

If you receive your certification from Responsible Training, you will receive your registration afterwards from the City of Arlington. If you receive your certification from iCare Training, you will need to take the additional step of registering your certification at ArlingtonPermits.com.

Child Care Center Directors who are licensed by the State of Texas may give this training to their Child Care Center Workers. To do so, they must register with the City of Arlington by submitting a copy of their State Certification and a copy of their course curriculum for approval by the City of Arlington's Health Division.

Child Care Plan Review

Plans and specification for the Child Care Center must be submitted to Planning and Development Services located at City Hall, 101 W.
