On January 2, 2024, the Arlington Police Department was notified that a pedestrian who was critically injured in a recent crash died from his injuries.

The crash occurred on December 18, 2023 at approximately 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of E. Park Row Drive and Susan Drive.

Investigators believe a 2013 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound through the intersection and was struck by a 2014 Mazda 6 that was turning left from the westbound lanes of Park Row Dr onto the southbound lanes of Susan Dr. The impact caused the Civic to leave the roadway and strike a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk. The driver of the Mazda 6 was determined to be at fault for the wreck.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he remained until his death.

The driver of the Civic stayed on scene, called 911, and cooperated with investigators. He is not facing any criminal charges in connection to this incident.

The driver of the Mazda 6 left the scene and did not attempt to render aid. Officers later located the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. They arrested the driver, 25-year-old Paula Cely-Bernal, on one count of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury. That charge will now be upgraded to Accident Involving Death.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the pedestrian.
