City Manager Presents 2014 Budget to Council

This week, Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton presented the FY 2014 proposed budget of $406 million to City Council. "This year's budget is built around the basics and maintaining what we have, while demonstrating the significant value of the services we provide to our residents,"said Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton.

The budget supports the four priorities as identified by the City Council: Support Quality Education, Enhance Regional Mobility, Define an Identifiable Brand and Build a Thriving Community. Highlights from next year's budget include money for additional police field supervisors and an additional $5 million for street maintenance.

Here are more highlights from the budget, categorized by City Council priority:

Building a Thriving Community:

  • $150,000 for feasibility study of Convention Center Hotel
  • Additional $330,000 for Code Compliance services
  • $66,113 for park development and maintenance
  • $49,775 for golf program business services improvements
  • $55,277 for sports field enhancements
  • $1.75 M in compensation for current employees
  • $3.5 M for active/retiree healthcare

Enhance Regional Mobility

  • Additional $50,000 for marketing Metro ArlingtonXpress pilot program
  • Street maintenance budget to increase by$4.93M
  • Initiation of several road projects
    • Widening of Abram (SH360 to Collins): $5.38M
    • Tri-Schools Street Improvement Program: $4.60M
    • Residential Rebuild Program: $1.20M

Support Quality Education

  • $7,163,440 allocated for library
    • $120,000 for Library K-12 educational efforts
    • $113,007 for Library RFID and E-Commerce project
  • $50,000 for River Legacy Foundation
  • Continue AISD Fire Academy

Define an Identifiable Brand

  • $500,000 for Entertainment District gateway signage
  • $150,000 for arts funding - Sculpture Trail
  • $846,000 for Experience Arlington
