Arlington Water Utilities has received a report of an individual impersonating a City of Arlington employee in an attempt to collect outstanding water bills over the phone. The call is likely a phone scam that uses scare tactics to compel individuals into giving out credit card or bank account numbers.

As of Thursday evening, one customer had received a voicemail message from someone who identified himself as an Arlington Water Utilities employee. He said a past-due balance had to be paid immediately or water service would be shut off.

Laurie Foreman, Customer Services Manager for Arlington Water Utilities, said "termination notifications are mailed separately only if a balance of two months is not paid. Arlington Water Utilities does not make phone calls or send emails in an attempt to collect past due balances."

If an Arlington Water Utilities customer is contacted over the phone by a person stating they have an outstanding balance, the customer should call 817-275-5931.
