Arlington Water Utilities will continue to have some of the lowest water rates in North Texas when new rates for Fiscal Year 2024 go into effect on Oct. 1, 2023.

The rate changes are associated with water and sanitary sewer service for residential and commercial customer accounts in Arlington. The average residential water and sewer bill will increase by about $2.76 a month, or by about 4.07%. Commercial customers who use 50,000 gallons of water and 50,000 gallons of wastewater will pay an additional $54.13 a month, an increase of 8.44%.

A full list of rate changes that begin Oct. 1, 2023, is online at ArlingtonTX.gov/water, under the “My Water Account” tab. Copies of the rate brochure for Fiscal Year 2024 in Spanish and Vietnamese are also available at the link. A brochure detailing the changes is also being mailed in Arlington Water Utilities bills in October.

The Arlington City Council approved the rates and Arlington’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget in September. Increases to the Water Department’s FY24 budget included about $5.3 million for wastewater treatment costs paid to Trinity River Authority, $1.6 million for inflow and infiltration flow reduction efforts, and $845,749 for chemicals. Inflow and infiltration occur when stormwater or groundwater improperly enters the sanitary sewer system. The Arlington City Council also authorized Arlington Water Utilities to use $3.4 million from the department’s Rate Stabilization Fund to offset one-time increases in expenses, including raises for IT personnel and fleet purchases.

Arlington’s residential refuse charge (trash/recycling collection)$18.50 to $19.19 plus applicable sales taxes.
