Children in East Library Branch

Spring Break is just around the corner, and the Arlington Public Library is offering a week of fun for students and families! Spring break is a great time to unwind and reconnect as a family, but it can be hard to find activities for a whole week of fun. Stay busy and get out of the house with free events, toys and technology to take home, books and lots more. Stop by any location to learn more about these Spring Break options, or just browse our books and find something great to read.

 Take-Home Learning

The Arlington Public Library offers a variety of resources to keep children engaged in playful learning. From portable technology to educational kits and sets of books, there are options to grow with children from birth through school. The best part is, they’re all free to check out and take home with a library card.

  •  Playaway Views: Each Playaway View comes pre-loaded with multiple videos making it simple for patrons to access digital movies, shows, educational programming and more without the need for DVDs, downloads or an additional player. Playaway Views check out for one week on an adult card and will renew up to three times if available. Playaway Views are available at every location and can be returned in our book drops.
  •  Playaway Launchpad: Playaway Launchpads are pre-loaded with high-quality, ad-free learning apps grouped by age, subject and grade level. Every Launchpad is durable enough to move from the hands of one little explorer to the next. 100% secure — No risk of exposure to unintended content. You'll love the 7" high-def touch screen and external speaker when playing games. Playaway Launchpads also check out for one week at a time on an adult card and renew up to three times if available.
  •  Read it Again Kits: These themed kits for ages 2 through 5, are full of educational toys and games, DVDs, CDs, puppets, and of course, books! We have kits about favorite authors, shapes, letters, numbers, animals, princesses, cars, seasons, monsters, holidays, and many more. All our kits are themed to enhance your child’s enjoyment of learning. Kits are available at every location, but some branches store them in the back room. If you don't see any kits at your favorite location, please ask at the desk to see what's available.
  •  STEM Kits: These themed kits for ages 5 through 8, are full of educational toys and games, DVDs, CDs, puppets, and of course, books. These resources include kits focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for grade school-aged students. They're a great way to keep learning and exploring even when school is out.
  •  1000 Books Before Kindergarten Backpacks: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationwide challenge, encouraging caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. Reading often to your baby, toddler, or preschooler will help improve vocabulary, listening, and other vital skills your child needs to succeed in Kindergarten. Each of our backpacks has ten engaging fun books for your new reader to enjoy.

Read it Again Kits, STEM Kits, and 1000 Books Before Kindergarten materials are available thanks to grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
