In this episode of Arlington Eats, host Cynthia Lemus visits Savor Coffee Bar and Eatery, a cozy Arlington coffee shop that has quickly become a local favorite for its delicious drinks, unique bakery items, and welcoming atmosphere.
Opened by Iman Ewtabaq and her husband Mohamed Hegazy, the shop was born out of a passion for baking and coffee during the pandemic.
"We were sitting at home during the pandemic like everybody else," Iman said. "I love baking, and my husband is a big coffee lover, so he bought a coffee roaster. We started roasting our own beans, and one day we were visiting Arlington and saw this place was for sale."
The couple’s vision came to life, and today, Savor offers a unique blend of Moroccan-inspired flavors paired with locally sourced coffee. Iman takes pride in serving dishes made with love, such as their popular crepes and sandwiches, which have become staples on the menu.
"Based on our customer reviews, I believe we have the best coffee, the best taste, and the best crepes and sandwiches. They’re made with love. When I’m making the sandwiches, it’s like I’m doing it for myself, just like at home."
The menu at Savor features a variety of treats, including pistachio croissants, almond croissants, and crepes with new, seasonal recipes. In addition to the food, Savor offers a wide range of signature drinks.
"We have our own signature drinks—our own flavored drinks, whether it's coffee, tea, lemonades, or something else," Mohamed said.
The couple’s journey has had its challenges, especially in the beginning.
"It wasn’t easy at the beginning. Every business has its ups and downs," Mohamed said. "At first, customers were loyal to the original owners, not the place itself. But over time, we started to build our own customer base."
Despite the challenges, Iman and Mohamed are happy with their decision to settle in Arlington. Iman expressed her love for the area and its vibrant community.
"I love this area," Iman said. "My husband joked last week, saying, 'What do you think about moving to Plano or further north?' I said, 'No, no way! I love it here. There’s so much to see in Arlington.'"
