The Arlington City Council approved a $9.4 million contract with SYB Construction Inc. for the renewals in September.

A public meeting about the project is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in the City Council Chambers at Arlington City Hall, 101 W. Abram St. Water department engineers and representatives from SYB will be available to answer questions at the meeting.

Construction on the project is set to begin in late October 2023 and end in December 2024. Existing 6-inch water and sanitary sewer mains in the project area will be replaced with new 8-inch mains. After the water and sanitary sewer main improvements are complete, approximately 35,500 square yards of pavement will be reconstructed.

These improvements will replace aging infrastructure with a history of water main breaks, reduce maintenance costs, and improve service to your neighborhoods. The sanitary sewer mains selected for replacement have been determined to be in poor condition which could result in sanitary sewer overflows. Also, most of the asphalt streets within the project scope have an Overall Condition Index (OCI) rating below 50 which is considered a failed roadway.
