Enter the Arlington MLK Spirit of Service Collegiate Scholarship
The Arlington MLK Celebration Committee funds a $1,000 scholarship especially for students enrolled at UT Arlington and Tarrant County College-Southeast Campus.
Essay Topic: “Advancing the Dream: A Nation of Freedom and Justice”
The entry deadline is November 18, 2016
This scholarship will help defray the cost of tuition and books for a deserving student who demonstrates a commitment to community service and academics. Submissions are also evaluated on financial need.
Requirements include:
- Demonstrated commitment to community service
- Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior who has completed 30 hours of more.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Full-time status (12 semester hours or more)
- Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA score for 2016)
- Essay must not exceed 1,500 words
Application shall also include two letters of recommendation from two faculty members and/or community leaders, a statement of community service achievement, and an essay on community service.
Topic: “Advancing the Dream: A Nation of Freedom and Justice” (What can be done today to help make Dr. King's dream of freedom and justice a reality in our community?)
How to Enter:
Complete an application form, which may be picked up in the UT Arlington University Center Operations Office or Tarrant County College-SE Campus Student Activities Office.

Winner will be notified in December and formally recognized at the MLK Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.
