Here are a few ways you can enjoy your weekend in The American Dream City. 

Rangers host Astros in the American League Championship Series  

Your hometown Rangers host the Houston Astros in the ALCS at Globe Life Field for Game 4, 7 p-m Thursday, Oct. 19 and if necessary, Game 5, 4 p-m Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Learn more about limited tickets on the Rangers’ website

Pumpkin Nights 

Head over the Howell Farms for Pumpkin Nights. At Pumpkin Nights, you will venture along a half-mile walking path, where you’ll discover the Forbidden City, a Pirate’s Cove, and more fantastical lands built using over 5,000 hand-carved real and artificial pumpkins. The celebration continues with entertainment and games in The Village, our festival area. Tickets are non-refundable. There is a $5 fee (per ticket) to change entry dates and times. These changes must be requested 48 hours before your originally scheduled time slot and tickets cannot be transferred to a sold-out night. There will be NO walk-up ticket sales. Fright Fest

It is time for Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023. Get ready for the best Halloween event of the season, featuring family-friendly thrills by day and the scariest frights by night presented by SNICKERS®.

Kids Boo Fest

Kids Boo Fest at Six Flags Over Texas, is where you will find tons of fun for your little monsters with treat-or-treating and family-friendly Halloween activities. Explore spooky fun for all ages and get your tickets from now until Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023.

Oktoberfest Food Festival

Head over to Six Flags Over Texas through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 to enjoy craft & seasonal brews complimented with a menu of German inspired cuisine at the park’s Oktoberfest Food Festival. Celebrate Oktoberfest with Six Flags by adding a Taste of Oktoberfest Sampler to your order. Six Flags Over Texas is offering over 30 beers and wines during our Oktoberfest event, including a popular list of “Oktoberfest” favorites.

Annual Genealogy Network of Texas Lock-In 

Join the Arlington Public Library for a full day of Genealogy Research sessions in this fun and informative event 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library‘s [re]Brary Room B. No registration is required. Just show up for any or all the sessions as it's designed to be a come-and-go affair. Learn more by clicking here

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library as we playfully discover the world around us!  Designed for ages 1-4. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. Outdoor Storytime at River Legacy Nature Center

Join the Arlington Public Library at River Legacy Nature Center for stories and nature with a special outdoor storytime, weather permitting, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2023. The program will be moved indoors in the case of inclement weather. Click here to register.

3D Printing Ages 9+: Halloween 

Learn about 3D printing and print out a Halloween trinket 3-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. Materials will be provided. This class is limited to the first 8 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+.

Harvest Splash 

The East Indoor Pool will host its first floating pumpkin patch 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Find your perfect pumpkin with the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department and decorate it in their Party Room, then take photos with it at a photo booth. You won't want to miss this awesome autumnal event! All participants must be registered. An adult must be in the water with all non-swimmers, 3–5-year-olds, and individuals wearing lifejackets. Parents’ Night Out – Spooky Treats

Enjoy a night out with some fun at Dottie Lynn Recreation Center 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Get spooky with some crafted snacks that you will be sure to get a thrill out of! Dinner provided. Click here to register!

The Paranormal, Ghosts, and Spooky Things

Join the Arlington Public Library at the Woodland West Library Branch for a spooky good time 6-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Hear paranormal stories and come prepared to share your own.

Shows at Arlington Music Hall

The Arlington Music Hall has shows you can enjoy this weekend. You can experience Neal McCoy 8:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, The Zeppelin Project 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 and the Andy Gross Live: Are You Kidding Me? Tour 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. Big Tex Run

The Big Tex 5K/10K takes place 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Texas Live! Click here to register. Do you love BIG runs, BIG race medals, BIG beers, and BIG celebrations? Then you're going to love the BIG TEX RUN (The Big Tex Run is not affiliated with or sponsored by the State Fair of Texas). Enjoy awesome scenic views of Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium & the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field and then get ready for a BIG Celebration at Texas Live with free celebratory beers (must be 21+) from no other than local Texas Brewery, Revolver Brewing. Day Trip – Texas State Fair

Howdy folks! Get your tickets and come ride along with the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department to the 2023 Texas State Fair! Price includes a ride to the State Fair and back from Elzie Odom Athletic Center and admission to the Texas State Fair. Click here to register! The World Awaits Conference

Black Women’s Wall Street, Inc. hosts its first-ever conference in celebration of its five years of being incorporated! It takes place 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel. They want to celebrate with you and want to pour into you in a way that will serve everything that you are and in every way you are needed by so many people around you. They recognize the call on your life is great and there’s much work to be done but you must take time to honor yourself, heal your brokenness and help yourself first before securing the mask of others. 

Spooky Tails Boot Camp

It's time to sweat it out with Coach Darcia! Join the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department for this fun and upbeat boot camp in our Multipurpose Room at the Cliff Nelson Recreation Center 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. This boot camp is designed for ages 13+. Click here to register!

José Guadalupe Posada: Legendary Printmaker of Mexico

Experience the artistry of José Guadalupe Posada, a visionary illustrator whose legacy is perhaps the most influential of all Mexican artists but whose name was almost lost to history. The exhibition runs from Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, until Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Arlington Museum of Art. To get pricing and tickets, click here

Family Tree Hike 

Take a closer look at trees with a walk through the beautiful riparian forest right here in Arlington! The River Legacy Nature Center hosts this event 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. They will discuss parts of a tree, decomposition, usage, identification and more. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. All participants over five years of age must register. Each child/family must have at least one adult attending and registered for the program. Children must be supervised by the adult they came with. Click here to register. 

Rain Barrel Building Class

Rainwater harvesting is great for North Texas because you can keep some of the rain during the spring and fall to use during our hot and dry summers. Even a small roof area can produce a usable amount of water during an average rainfall. From huge cisterns to small DIY barrels, capturing rainwater can be done by anyone. Attend this workshop 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Southwest Branch Library to learn the ins and outs of rainwater harvesting and purchase a discounted barrel to take home. Spice Club: Chai

Learn about Chai 12-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Southeast Branch Library. Learn different ways to spice things up in your kitchen. At Spice Club, you will learn about a different spice every month. Attend to discover a spice and receive a take-and-make kit featuring a variety of unique spices, herbs, or blends. Check out new cookbooks and recipes or bring a favorite recipe of yours to share! 

Each kit will include:

  • Information about the featured spice, its history with a few facts;
  • two simple recipe suggestions;
  • Small packet of the featured spice to try.

Spice of the month kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household.

Teens Give Back

Teens join the Arlington Public Library at Lake Arlington Branch for a chance to give back to the community! Come to make seasonal cards and gifts for seniors who partake in Books on Wheels, the library's outreach service for residents who live in select senior housing facilities. Supplies will be provided.

Crochet for beginners Ages 9+

Jump into the hobby of crochet 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library‘s Tinker Room. The Arlington Public Library will teach you about hooks, yarn, and basic stitches to get you started on your journey. This class is limited to the first 7 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 9+.

Sunday Brunch

Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon french toast and served with maple syrup! Guests can also order off of our à la carte menu, making the Sunday Brunch a great option for families, picky eaters or those with smaller appetites. Reservations Welcomed: 817-548-5047. 

Day Trip – Lost Oak Winery in Burleson

Enjoy a tour of the vineyards and wine-making facility before sampling some wines! The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will travel to Burleson’s Lost Oak Winery for a Tour and Tasting at their beautiful facility. They have a variety of wines to fit everybody’s taste. Whether you are a wine connoisseur or have never had a sip, you will enjoy this lovely vineyard! Departure is scheduled for 12 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center and arrival back is around 4 p.m. Click here to register. 

Tastes of Mexico Walking Tour

Get a taste of Mexico during this tour 3:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at Paleteria Michoacana, located at 1014 East Pioneer Parkway in Arlington. Mexican cuisine is a vibrant tapestry of flavors and regional traditions, artfully prepared with a blend of indigenous and Spanish influences. Experience a dance of spicy and smoky notes from a variety of chili peppers, tempered by the earthy warmth of cumin, coriander, and oregano. Freshness abounds with the zesty tang of tomatoes, lime and cilantro, while the creamy allure of avocados and cheeses balances the heat. Maize, in the form of tortillas, hominy and elote, adds a comforting sweetness, while meats and seafood, marinated and grilled in a multitude of ways, offer savory delights. Arlington Community Band 2023-2024 Concert Season Opener 

The Arlington Community Band opens its 2023-2024 Concert Season with Sounds of the Season: Fall 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at Lamar Baptist Church, located at 1000 W. Lamar Blvd. in Arlington.
