On Sunday, November 19, 2023, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to a home in the 2500 block of Fallcreek Street after an adult male at that location contacted 911 Dispatch and indicated his desire to commit suicide by cop.

Officers set up a perimeter around the house and made phone contact with the man in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. At some point, the man ended phone contact with the officers and began approaching them carrying a firearm.

Officers instructed the man to put down the weapon, but he did not comply. Based on the man’s actions, multiple officers fired their service weapons, striking him. Immediately following the shooting, officers performed life saving measures on the man until paramedics arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

No officers or bystanders were injured.

As is standard procedure whenever an officer fires their service weapon, there are now two investigations taking place:

  • a criminal investigation led by the APD Homicide Unit that will review the entire incident and determine if any criminal offenses were committed

  • an administrative investigation led by the APD Internal Affairs Unit that will determine whether officers followed department policies and procedures during the incident

Per department policy, the officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave while those investigations are conducted.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
