Prologis, a global leader in logistics real estate, recently deployed a battery energy storage systems (BESS) project in Arlington. With growing energy demands in north Texas and across the state, there is an increased need for battery storage to help the stability of the grid, ensuring businesses and residents have access to reliable power. The project, Prologis’ first in the state, is designed to capture and dispatch sufficient power to supply more than 1,700 households during ERCOT’s peak demand periods.

"In the face of Texas's surging energy demand, innovative battery storage solutions like Arlington's project become not just beneficial but essential. Within Prologis, we're leveraging the potential of existing real estate, deploying energy assets that deliver reliable, sustainable power to our customers and the communities we proudly serve,” said Vibhu Kaushik, Global Head of Energy, Utilities and Storage at Prologis.

The BESS project is located at Prologis’ Interchange 20 property in Arlington and is the company’s most expansive, fully assembled energy storage installation worldwide. It also the first project to be co-located within a newly constructed distribution center. Prologis plans to add nine more projects throughout the state by the end of 2025, bringing its Texas BESS portfolio to 100 MW – enough to power over 17,000 homes.

With its portfolio of high quality and well-located real estate, typically adjacent to ports, highways, airports and large populations centers, Prologis is leveraging its scale and modern logistics facilities around the world to provide power solutions and help meet the growing demand.

“The City partnered with Prologis to capitalize on and accommodate future demand for this type of space in a very active market,” said Marcus Young, economic development specialist for the City of Arlington.

Strategic partnerships with companies like Prologis support economic growth, and the addition of the BESS project helps attract and retain business through lower energy prices and grid resilience.
