Here are a few ways you can enjoy your weekend in The American Dream City. 

Forever Forest Visiting Exhibit 

Forever Forest by Omaha Children’s Museum, is an immersive exhibit that teaches families how their everyday lives are connected to forests through the ways they live, work, and play. Families will enjoy hands-on activities focused on forest life and sustainable harvesting. Visit the River Legacy Nature Center to explore the forest like never before. Climb, crawl and slide on treetops, become a conductor for a day and work a kid-sized replica of a Union Pacific engine, or work together to build a house as you learn about the many things wood is used for! The exhibit runs through Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024.

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library as we playfully discover the world around us!  Designed for ages 1-4. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. Head over to River Legacy Nature Center 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, for the Artini event. You can enjoy snacks, drinks and learn to make your own antler dreamcatcher. The webbing will already be on them. You will be able to decorate with materials provided. These include feathers, decorative wooden beads, faux suede cord, and a few special trinkets. Panther City Quartet: Live at the UTA Planetarium

Participate in an evening of food, drinks, and live music featuring Panther City Quartet 6-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 19, 2024, at the UTA Planetarium. There will be a cash bar. Appetizers are included with the price of admission. It is $30 general admission and $25 for the UTA community. Click here to purchase tickets. 
The Panther City Quartet is composed of Kasey Dixon (cello), Dan Stevens (violin), Joey Tullis (violin), and Juan Diego Vega (viola). Kasey Dixon is a passionate contemporary cellist providing classical and pop cello performances across North Texas under the name Panther Cello. Dan Stevens is a professional violinist and violist and currently serves as the concert master of the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra as well as being active in several local classical ensembles. Joey Tullis is an up-and-coming violinist and composer currently studying at TCU. Juan Diego Vega is a Columbian violist in love with symphonic and metal music.

Large "Bamboo" Handbuilt Pottery Vase, 3-Day Workshop (Jan 19, 20 & 27)

Catalyst Creative Arts hosts a large "Bamboo" Handbuilt Pottery Vase 3-Day Workshop. In this workshop you will build a 10-inch cylindrical vase using hand building techniques. Day 1: Friday, Jan 19, 2024, from 7-9 p.m., you will practice and learn the pottery hand building techniques needed for this project. Then you will roll a slab of clay for the cylinder and base and form them together. Day 2: Saturday, Jan 20, 2024, from 7-9 p.m., while the clay is leather hard, you will add feet to the vase, shape the contour of the vase and add decorative texture to the surface. Day 3: Saturday, Jan 27, 2024, from 3-5 p.m., youwill glaze the bisque fired vase. No experience necessary. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Spice Club: Nutmeg

Learn about Nutmeg 12-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2024, at the Southeast Branch Library. Learn different ways to spice things up in your kitchen. At Spice Club, you will learn about a different spice every month. Attend to discover a spice and receive a take-and-make kit featuring a variety of unique spices, herbs, or blends. Check out new cookbooks and recipes or bring a favorite recipe of yours to share! 

Each kit will include:

  • Information about the featured spice, its history with a few facts;
  • two simple recipe suggestions;
  • Small packet of the featured spice to try.

Spice of the month kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. No registration required.

Cricut for Beginners

Join the Arlington Public Library as you design and cut using the Cricut Design Space Software 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. This class is limited to the first 8 in attendance and is appropriate for ages 13+.

Shows at Arlington Music Hall

The Arlington Music Hall has shows you can enjoy this weekend. You can experience The Voice 2023 runner-up Ruby Leigh 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, and then Atlanta Rhythm Section with special guest DEFRANCE later that day at 6 p.m. Click on the event for ticket information.  

Water Marbling On Silk Scarf

Catalyst Creative Arts is excited about this addictive activity that is fun for all ages 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024. In this class, paint is applied to the surface of a special water bath. Floating the colors in their custom-built water marbling trays, combs, rakes and a stylus are used to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece silk scarf. The class begins with their artist giving instructions and making the first water marbled scarf to demonstrate multiple design techniques. Each person's first scarf is $48. Additional scarves per person are $30. They are prepared the exact amount of material ahead of time for each class. No refunds or credits for cancellations less than 24 hours in advance or for no shows. 

Fight Night Live! 

Fight Night Live! is the ultimate watch party for the upcoming matches at Texas Live! Grab your crew and catch all the action for the UFC 297 in Sports & Social Arlington Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Enjoy multiple screens for viewing, drink specials, live entertainment, games, giveaways and more. Feral Cat Sunday 

Arlington Animal Services is having a special Trap-Neuter-Return event for feral cats in Arlington 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at the Arlington Animal Services Center. The first 20 cats to arrive between 8-9 a.m. are eligible for these free clinics. Only the first 20 Arlington feral cats will be accepted, and only one feral cat per trap. Kittens must be at least three (3) months old. Ferals must be in a trap. Learn more about the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program at https://www.arlingtontx.gov/tnr, or call 817-575-8131.

UTA Day at the Rodeo 

Strap on your boots to enjoy a fantastic stock show, and rodeo experience! UTA Day at the Rodeo features access to the world-renowned Fort Worth Stock Show, a catered lunch, and tickets to the afternoon show. It takes place 12 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Tickets will be $65 for the Barbecue lunch package (which includes a rodeo ticket) or $45 for just the Rodeo ticket in the UTA block of seats for the 2 p.m. show. Click here for ticket information.
